Downtown Kewanee TIF Update Timeline

On July 28th, the City of Kewanee held its first public hearing regarding the proposed Downtown TIF district.  At that meeting, the City’s consultants, EDG/Jacob & Klein presented information regarding formation of the TIF, the reasons why a TIF district is important from a municipal economic development standpoint, and some initial proposed boundaries of the district.

Since that meeting, the boundaries have been more carefully sharpened and each parcel within the proposed district has been assessed for inclusion.  The next steps in the approval process include a Joint Review Board meeting on November 5th for all affected taxing jurisdictions and a December 8th public hearing.  Final approval of the ordinances to establish the TIF district is scheduled for January 12, 2015 where the Kewanee City Council will make the final determination and take a final vote.
